Assorted questions and speculations (spoiler alert)

Wilzo — Wed, 06/29/2011 - 17:21

I had to attend some rather boring lectures during the spring, and that gave me time to think. What I came up with was all kinds of questions that may or may not be relevant - but I'd like to share them, to find out what you guys think and whether there are answers I've completely missed.

When Locke and Jean left Camorr in the end of Lies, what happened to the Right People? Anatolius was Capa, but Locke killed him; was there anyone who could rise to be the next one, or did they fall back into the pre-Barsavi mess, with all the gangs fighting with each other for power?

The Food in Locke's world.

RepetitiveNone — Thu, 05/19/2011 - 20:33

Have you guys noticed how intensely epic it sounds? I mean, I think they once made gutted baby sharks stuffed with veggies, and olives in place of their eyes. And then, it was stated that the omelet with minced sheep kidneys was a favorite for the whole table. I'd definitely eat this stuff. And then the 5 beautiful arts? The desserts, and the fish. And then the impossible dishes! The half Capon/Pig, and the Tuna/Squid.
Tasty stuff.
And I think in Tal Verrar there was the candy dragonflies, mmm tasty.

Quote it

Sabetha — Wed, 04/06/2011 - 19:57

I don't mean to make another 'favourites' thread, and I have a feeling a thread similar to this is already floating about, BUT...

Rob and I are in the planning process of totally overhauling the site in time for the release of RoT. One of the features we HOPE (big word, that) to include is a small window on the side of every page that toggles through quotes from the books as you browse. So I need to make a long list and hopefully you guys can help me out in that department!

"In the Stacks" by Scott Lynch

TheSpider — Sat, 05/22/2010 - 16:35

As you may remember Subterranean Press is releasing in November (?) an anthology, including a short story by Scott Lynch, edited by Patrick St-Denis from Pat's Fantasy Hotlist. Some reviews have already surfaced: First, a review of the entire anthology: http://fantasybookcritic.blogspot.com/2010/05/speculative-horizons-edite...
Second, and more interestingly for us, a review of Scott's "In the Stacks" with an excerpt: http://aidanmoher.com/blog/2010/05/reviews/review-in-the-stacks-by-scott...

You guys are so negative.

feistyrobotcat — Wed, 05/12/2010 - 01:43

If Scott needs anything right now, it's support. Not comments about how the third book will never come out and other hopeless rubbish.

I don't care if Scott ever reads these things or not, don't give up on him.

We love Scott, let's be nice to him, okay?

Any Rpers In The House? (Excuse the wording)

Tink — Sun, 04/11/2010 - 19:13

I've been considering starting a site based in Cammor but i haven't been able to find anyone who's in on the storys to start with to help me start it.

Anyone interested.....by rpers i refer to the forum based ones which you commonly find set in the world of harry potter...which is becoming increasingly tiresom and boring.

Locke Lamora Audiobooks

ravelle — Sat, 10/10/2009 - 01:14

I'm really enjoying the audiobooks available on audible.com (although I had to pretend to be American to get them!).

The narration by Michael Page is unbelievably good. Far better than nearly every other narrator I've heard (the sole exception that springs to mind is Stephen Fry in the Harry Potter books).

Anyone else enjoy listening to books in this way?

The Mad Baron's Mechanical Attic

Sabetha — Fri, 05/29/2009 - 21:14

One of Scott's novellas, apparently named 'The Mad Baron's Mechanical Attic', is reportedly underway though far from completion, according to Edward Miller, creator of a possible cover for the book. The design is 'based on just a few pages and some input from the author', so I guess we can presume a novella will be out at some point, even if it's not 'The Bastards and The Knives' as we thought.

LoLL Read Along

ravelle — Mon, 01/26/2009 - 10:23

Hi everyone!

Who's interested in a read along?

Simple idea for those new to the concept : each week we agree to read, say, three chapters. On the Saturday we write up our thoughts and opinions on the chapters just read in a forum thread and have a good old chinwag! It allows everyone to reread the books with a slightly more critical and, for some, engaged manner as well as having people to talk and discuss the plot lines with. As we go we can also fill out the archives for the main site.
