Thorn of Emberlain says two spies/who dies? Sabetha or Jean?

nicolefritz — Fri, 12/02/2011 - 18:19

The Thorn of Emberlain

Book IV of the Gentleman Bastard Sequence
Forthcoming
A kingdom torn by civil war.

A breakaway republic, outnumbered on all fronts.

Two thieves caught between avarice and admiration.

Things change forever.

ok guys, i've been giving this some thought and i could be toally off-- but read the descriptioin above--it says two spies--so it's my thought taht it means Locke and someone? Sabetha or Jean? Scott says the next few books are supposed to be about Locke --"we move from the Gentlemen Bastards attempting to stage relatively local crimes to them getting caught up in wide-ranging events including politics, espionage, and war."

Would Sabetha's death be something that would make Locke interested in this war? Or what about Jean? I am more inclined to think that Sabetha may die or maybe the three of them will work together throughout the series? That seems to easy to be honest--and a few of my friends agree with me...

Anyone's thoughts?

I've had a think about this

Sabetha — Sun, 12/04/2011 - 14:31

I've had a think about this before, and because it says trapped between avarice and admiration, I would say that sentence implies it being Locke and Sabetha. But I don't think Jean is going to die. I think that line is speaking solely about Locke and Sabetha's relationship, so it just eliminates Jean from the subject. Of course, it could mean something entirely different! I'm just speculating.

That could be very true, one

nicolefritz — Mon, 12/05/2011 - 17:07

That could be very true, one can only hope!!! I really don't want to see Jean go or even Sabetha--but i'm worried because i loved bug, Calo Galdo and we know what happened to them....killing either jean or sabetha would be a great plot device in the fact of revenge that would throw locke into this entire thing head first with a clever vengence. I guess we will have to wait and see, i just don't want to wait any longer!!!

“-Worst of all, the inner vault is guarded by a live dragon, attended by fifty naked women armed with poisoned spears, each of them sworn to die in Requin's service. All redheads."
-"You're just making that up, Jean.”

Hopefully we wont have to

Hopefully we wont have to wait too much longer :-)

I sincerely doubt Scott will kill of either Sabetha or Jean in the third book. Sabetha, because he's built her up for two books and her appearance is so anticipated, and Jean, because, well, he's Jean. Jean might die eventually, but I can't believe it would be so soon in the series.

I doubt either of them will

I doubt either of them will die in book 3, but I'm pretty sure one of them will die eventually... snif.

I seem to recall reading

RepetitiveNone — Tue, 12/27/2011 - 08:57

I seem to recall reading somewhere that every other book will be flashback and present- Such as the 7th being based on Bug.
So, that would mean, since the first is a flashback, second is present, third flashback (?) the fourth would be set in present time- so perhaps a new character would be introduced by that time.
Completely not sure about anything I just said though, its been a while.

You've never been more right about anything in your life, Bug!
