Watchmen

Icarus — Sun, 03/08/2009 - 02:53

Just got home from this. F-ing awesome movie.

I've never read the comic book, so I've got no concerns about changes made for the movie.

It was dark, and violent, and fun. I'm really glad they let this be a R rated movie.

Anyone else see it?

To be honest, I've been avoiding action-hero films like the plague. Xmen, The Hulk, Ironman, Elektra, Catwoman - when will it end? And they're all as crap as eachother. The onyl good film is Spiderman and the latest Batman (but then, I've never been a big fan of batman). So I haven't watched the Watchmen. Did I see Batman in the advert? I thought they'd made Justice League into a film!

I saw Watchmen this weekend. Pretty good, but I admit to going in there with very high expectations (after all, it's based on the most acclaimed graphic novel of all time, and it was listed as one of the Top 100 Books of the 20th century by Time Magazine), and yes, it was a solid look at the how, what and why of the superhero, but it didn't blow me away like I was hoping it would. In the early eighties when it was written, sure. But now, Batman and to a certain extent, Spider-Man and X-Men have taken a more gritty and adult approach to the superhero genre.

So good, but not great, IMHO. 8-)

See, I've been a comic book geek, but never got into Watchmen.

I loved the movie. It was a great story, and not afraid to be violent, or graphic, or gritty, and it was exactly what I've been looking for from a movie lately.

I enjoyed The Dark Knight, and LOVED Batman Begins, X-Men, and the thought the first Spiderman movie was well done.

If nothing else, I'm really glad this was a R rated movie. I think it would have been a totally different film otherwise.

I've actually never read the graphic novel, either, but just from my association with the speculative genres over the years, I'd heard nothing but unparalleled praise of it, so my expectations were probably just too high.

I agree that it needed to be R-rated - anything else would have demeaned the material.

I've heard of it a lot but just watched it several months ago, I haven't read the comic book either. And while finished, my thought is just like yours: F-ing AWESOME.
