Twelve Gods (or thirteen?)
Icarus — Thu, 07/10/2008 - 16:21
Has anyone ever put together a list of the various gods that exist in the Gentlemen Bastards Sequence?
For example, I believe that the Crooked Warden is the thirteenth. Do we know who the other twelve are?

I think he means he hopes to have this sort of thing posted in a sticky somewhere on the site, and i'm sure he would be very greatful if we were able to work them all out :D

Sabetha — Wed, 08/27/2008 - 21:57The creator of the site, Ravelle, intends camorr.com to be a complete databse to the Gentlemen Bastard Sequence; the forum is just the beginning. Ravelle and I are putting together information at the moment, mostly Ravelle, though I like to think I help ;)

Sabetha — Thu, 08/28/2008 - 10:21There's a 'Request For Help' thread under the 'Help' section. Best to go there if you want to help with anything ;) :D Or just PM Ravelle or myself.

Bonesaw — Fri, 02/13/2009 - 09:20Nameless Thirteenth - Crooked Warden, the Theifwatcher, the Benefactor, Father of Necessary Pretexts
Iono - Lord of the Grasping Waters
Aza Guilla - Lady of the Long Silence, Goddess of Death
Perelandro - Father of Mercies, Lord of the Overlooked
Gandolo - Father of Opportunities, Lord of Coin and Commerce, Heavenly Father of Business Transactions
Morgante - the City Father, Lord of Noose and Trowel

Re: Twelve Gods (or thirteen?)
Brick — Fri, 02/27/2009 - 06:14I'll quote a post I made over on the old The Right People forums that's now defunct. We've got ten confirmed canon gods and goddesses from the novels plus the nameless thirteenth, with a bit of guesswork and deduction the name of another (Venaportha) and a possible twelth god whose title but not name we know although I'm not really too sure about that one.
Lord of Gallants and Fools - Now in the part of the novel (Red Seas Under Red Skies) right after the wasp fight when Locke is blessing the dead man he's praying to the Crooked Warden, and then in the next sentence he says "Lord of gallants and fools, ease this man's passage to the Lady of the Long Silence." So is Lord of Gallants and Fools another of the Nameless Thirteenth's titles or has he finished praying to him and is now addressing another god to ease his passage to the third god Aza Guilla?
Venaportha - Now when a lot of characters swear they'll say "Sweet (Insert gods name here)!" as an exclamation. Later on in Red Seas Under Red Skies when Stragos is telling them about his plan to force them to go to sea posing as pirates Locke exclaims "Sweet Venaportha". So looks like we have another god.
So all in all that gives us eleven confirmed gods and most likely a twelfth one as well - Venaportha. Combine that with the Nameless Thirteenth and we've got all twelve of the gods.

Sabetha — Fri, 02/27/2009 - 13:22wow that's very perceptive!! Thank you for that insight, I'll be sure to add it to the Religion page when I next get a chance! :D

I have read your post on the old forum aswell and I don't want to be rude, but exluding the nameless thirteen and including Venaportha, I count eleven gods, wich means we are still missing one.

Re: Twelve Gods (or thirteen?)
Sabetha — Tue, 08/25/2009 - 11:40I think the missing one is 'Lord of Gallants and Fools', as Brick stated, but obviously no one had found the name for this god yet.
Re: Twelve Gods (or thirteen?)
GentlemanGajes — Tue, 08/25/2009 - 22:34Afetr reading that part again in the book, I do think it's a new description of the Nameless Thirteen, but ofcourse, we can't be sure.
