"In the Stacks" by Scott Lynch

TheSpider — Sat, 05/22/2010 - 16:35

As you may remember Subterranean Press is releasing in November (?) an anthology, including a short story by Scott Lynch, edited by Patrick St-Denis from Pat's Fantasy Hotlist. Some reviews have already surfaced: First, a review of the entire anthology: http://fantasybookcritic.blogspot.com/2010/05/speculative-horizons-edite...
Second, and more interestingly for us, a review of Scott's "In the Stacks" with an excerpt: http://aidanmoher.com/blog/2010/05/reviews/review-in-the-stacks-by-scott...

Oooh, I look forward to reading it! Let's hope this anthology isn't as elusive as Spectra Pulse.

Hee, Scott's LV entries

Sabetha — Fri, 06/11/2010 - 19:17

Hee, Scott's LV entries always make me chuckle.

His writing style is so gripping, once you start reading you really can't stop! Even though it was only a meagre few paragraphs, I really got sucked in! Intriguing idea, he's got thar. Can't wait to read the whole thing!

(Oh god, hopefully not another spectra pulse fiasco, eh Spider? Hahaha)

I can't wait to get a copy of this anthology - mainly because of the SL story - but also because it looks like a really exciting and varied anthology. Hopefully the (so far) positive reaction to the collection will help ease Scott's anxiety issues in relation to his writing.

I'm not really an anthology

Elfy — Fri, 06/18/2010 - 08:35

I'm not really an anthology person, but just recently a few authors that I enjoy reading have contributed to some of the ones coming out. This one looks quite entertaining.

To those who have read the short story, as well as the rest of the anthology... Is it worth getting as a whole? I am a little skint, right now. :\

I'm usually not too into

Wilzo — Sat, 04/02/2011 - 10:57

I'm usually not too into anthologies either, because I always make slow progress when there's really nothing to tie the stories together, though I've found myself reading them more often nowadays (usually because there's one author I like). I'd say liking this one depends a lot on whether you like the subgenre or not. I found James Enge and K.J. Parker very entertaining, and I like Moorcock's style, but to me Scott's is without a doubt the best. His style is so... fluid and natural. Swords-and-sorcery tends to be, at least in my experience, rather heavy and sometimes stuffy. If those adjectives make any sense.
I don't regret buying the whole thing, but then again I'm a person who's happy to physically own as many works of her favourite authors as possible.

Amelia, I have to apologise. I tried answering your question, but as you can see, it turned out to be not very informative...

Locke would appreciate it.
