Hello!
lady_fluffstar — Mon, 09/08/2008 - 20:08
Hi all, don't know what the ettiquette is around here so I thought i'd introduce myself!
Erm... bugger, i'm never actually any good at this bit - erm, female, 24, pink and fluffy, slightly batty, married, two kids, teacher, that's about it really.
Oh and I fantasise about Locke Lamora on an almost daily basis!

Roland of Gilead — Tue, 09/09/2008 - 16:32Welcome to the board. Only a modest amount of action here, and admittedly some concern that Lynch's series and the upcoming third book isn't getting more promotion from either the author or his publisher, but still, some interesting topics and hopefully worth your time. 8-)
Re: Hello!
Icarus — Wed, 09/10/2008 - 23:59I've been concerned as well about the lack of information coming from the author, or his live journal.
I discovered Scott Lynch after RSURS came out, so I am not sure what kind of marketing was done before now.
Maybe as we get closer to February, we will hear more.

Re: Hello!
lady_fluffstar — Thu, 09/11/2008 - 19:00I also only recently discovered Lynch after looking for things to read after exhausting Trudi Canavan's back catalogue! I'm finding the lack of updates really infuriating, after all it's not like the already existing GB books have been a failure. The only hype Lies got really came from really favourable reviews, otherwise both novels were released to very little fanfare had I not been a member of SF+F Locke and his comrades might have passed me by entirely.
There also seems to be a real lack of concentrated fanbase on the internet for the series, with little pockets here and there, hopefully this is something we can rectify! ;)
Re: Hello!
Roland of Gilead — Fri, 09/12/2008 - 15:15I'm not sure how well sales are for the books. :?:
They may be more popular with his fellow writers and critics than they are with the average fan. He IS very graphic with language, which turns off some readers, I suppose. Personally, I find it refreshing - criminals no doubt speak just his characters do - why should it be any different in a fantasy setting?
But I do know one thing - Lynch's fanbase won't grow if he doesn't continue to produce. I sure hope we can count on Republic of Thieves showing up in early 2009. :geek:
Re: Hello!
Sabetha — Sat, 09/13/2008 - 19:37Hello! Welcome to the forum!
There is a lack of fandom for the GB Sequence... but hopefully this website will amend that problem when it's up and running :-) And maybe we can drag everyone from the rightpeople.com over to here! I think it's terrible that Lynch hasn't updated anything. As someone said earlier somewhere 'bad news is better than no news'. Honestly, it doesn't take five minutes to post something on livejournal.com saying 'sorry for the lack of news I've been busy'. That alone would satisfy me, I think.
I can't imagine Lynch's books are doing that badly considering they've been published in god knows how many languages now. Once again, I only hope that this website will spread the Lynch-love. Haha. :-)
Again, welcome!!

Re: Hello!
Sabetha — Sun, 09/14/2008 - 12:28Yes, but many months ago, after I'd finished reading RSURS. I emailed him on impulse and he sent one back literally a day later. I think I'd asked about Sabetha and he'd answered a couple of questions... To be honest I hadn't expected a reply at all! I was very pleased. But um... I think he really is on a online hiatus at the moment. A very, very long one (since November!!). I sent him an email again quite a few weeks ago (can't for the life of me remember what it was about!) and I haven't had a reply. I think a lot of people are in the same boat.
I presume he's just busy. Or I think... he's worried that his fans are angry with him. I know if people are angry with me I avoid them like the plague... maybe he's doing the same? I don't know. I just hope he gets in touch with the public soon - for marketing reasons alone. People get put off by an unresponsive author. I remember the copious amounts of Q&As he did around Lies and RSURS' release. And a handful of interviews. As said before, I worry about the marketing, especially since RSURS didn't do so well...

Don Scot A Ellison — Thu, 10/23/2008 - 22:27Hey,
Some may know me from the Westeros board. I've modified my name a bit to fit in with the Camorr theme. I've just finished RSURS. I throughly enjoyed both tLoLL and RSURS. I'm chomping at the bit to read tRoT.

Don Scot A Ellison — Fri, 10/24/2008 - 13:15Icarus,
Yeah, I was excited when I saw the ad promoting tRoT at the end of RSURS saying the release date was Feb. 2009. Not a bad wait, I thought. Now I'm despairing because I've got another book in limbo like ADWD.
