Fun, fun...

Sabetha — Tue, 12/02/2008 - 00:28

It's been less than a day since the fansite officially launched, and I'm already exhausted from uploading enless amounts of content lol! Everything that's been written on the site had been done by me (the site itself is created completely by Rob - I could never create a website!) and i can become a bit careless. If you see anything out of place, be it a spelling mistake or something you'd like to see in a bit more detail etc. etc. throw it here and I'll see what I can do.

On that note, you might notice that there are...er... substancial chunks of content missing from the site... *sweatdrop*... I will get it done eventually, but if anyone had any information involving the missing chunks then please send it to me! I'll write it up and credit you on the site.

Oh, and before any suggestions are thrown around, there will be a fanfic, fanart, links and author section added soon enough.

It'll come together eventually, I swear! *grin*

Hi, I'm brand new here, and glad to see a site like this being built, so thanks for doing it (spares me the effort - I've been thinking about it for about two months). Here's a few things I've caught which you may or may not be aware of or have thought about (I'm just trying to be helpful):

On the Archives page: "relgion" for "religion", and the same at the top of the page it links to. On that same page there's a weird apostrophe after Chains in one spot, I'd change "expertise" for "area of influence" or something similar and Thiefwatcher is misspelled. Also, I would change "Little is known about the specifics surrounding the Vadran religion" to "Few specifics are known about Vadran religion".

On the glossary page, it should probably mentioned that Contrarequiallas are (generally?) female.

On the fandom art pages, images really shouldn't be resized with img tags, and especially not to to ruin their proportions, like the first one, Calm Before The Storm, by CrimsonCobwebs. If you want a uniform size to fit the page template, either resize the image (maintaining the image ratio) in a graphics program and then link to a full-sized image. When linking to full-sized images with the link set to open in another window (such as the book covers - where the thumbnails again should be properly resized in a graphics program), it should open either alone or with another frame. Keeping the look and feel of the main site obscures the fact that you've opened a new window/tab. On a fast browser/system, this can be quite vexing.

The top banner with Locke (?) and the houses should have a link to the main site front page. This is pretty much standard these days. Also, I think that at least on the front page, it should say Camorr.com. In fact, having it change to indicate which section you're in would also make sense.

The site should have a suitable favicon to make it pop in modern bookmarks and on browser tabs.

Good work, so far, though. I am a translator and writer, and I used to be a graphic designer, so I hope to be able to contribute in other ways than pure criticism in the future. I've been thinking about making a more detailed map of Camorr, but I don't want to guess as to scale and put in any details that Lynch may have in his head but hasn't pinpointed on the two maps we have. We'll see...

Anyways, thanks for this and good luck. I'll do what I can to help out.

Yeah, I adjusted them manually. Is it really so noticable? I didn't think they were hideously distorted. The frame sizes in the fanart section are all the same. About the images being opened with the same background theme as the rest of the site, I'll figure out how to do that and change it. I wanted that from the beginning, but the whole website making ordeal is still quite vexing for me :sweatdrop: . It will be altered though.

Good suggestion. I agree. I'll pass it onto Rob, if he doesn't see this post first (he's the website designer and creator).

Every spelling/grammar crit will be changed. Thanks for pointing them out. And so you know, Rob is working on a more advanced navigation system to tidy things up a bit.

Thanks again!

I'm only too glad to be of service, and happy to see you take my criticism as it was meant; constructive.

But, yes, resizing an image using HTML tags is bad for two reasons: it generally makes the image look awful (although I think some browsers display it worse than others) and it eats unnecessary bandwidth for those poor unfortunates who are not yet blessed with the miracle of broadband - or anyone popping in via a mobile device.

To the left is the tag-resized thumbnail, to the right the one done in Photoshop. SInce the proportions are off, the thumbnail right now is wider than the original image, so the one for the French cover it looks more like Jean than Locke standing there.

But it's early days yet, I realize that, and so far, most everything looks really good. Let me know if there's anything specific you would like me to contribute, and I'll see what I can do.

(I'm having trouble making the image visible, so here's a link instead)

Teaflax,

Thank you very much or tour valued feedback, i'm extremely grateful you've taken the time to write up such detailed feedback, thank you.

I see the amazing sabetha has esponded to some of your points, please rest assured I'll be working to address the rest! The main site is powered by wordpress which has allowed sabetha to jump in and get started with adding content; I'll be spending some time this weekend addressing any difficulties she's run into. If you're interested and willing to help us out with content/proofreading/ anything else please let I know and i can set you up!

Apologies for any typos I'm typing this on my iphone and my hands are numb!

Thanks again,

Rob i
