Finally!!!
Roland of Gilead — Thu, 07/03/2008 - 21:06
According to amazon, Matthew Stover's long-awaited Caine Black Knife will be published October 14 of this year. It appears to be a trade paperback from the price. That's the day before my birthday. Let the good times roll!!
He also has another Star Wars novel out December 30.
Stover is cited as one of Scott's major influences.

ravelle — Fri, 07/04/2008 - 09:20The best thing about literature is there's always something else to read. I'm always looking for new authors and tend to find I either -love- books or can't stand them! Can you tell me a bit about this series?
Re: Finally!!!
Roland of Gilead — Thu, 07/10/2008 - 17:55The first book is titled Heroes Die. It concerns a dystopian Earth where the masses are entertained by televised role-playing fantasy combats. The protagonist is Hari Michaelson, known as Caine in the fantasy world, and he's the best there is. The plot jumps back and forth between Hari in the real world and Caine in the fantasy world, as Hari is disillusioned by the whole screwed up situation, and wants out, but the powers-that-be won't let him, and they set up a scenario in the fantasy world that forces him to continue.
There is a love interest and plenty of political intrigue, and some of the most exciting action sequences out there. Stover is a better-than-average writer who not only creates a suspenseful and complex narrative, but has deep themes underneath the story, too.
It was the best novel I read back in 1998, and I read a bunch of good ones that year.
I think any fan of Lynch would enjoy this novel and its even darker and more complex sequel, Blade of Tyshalle. 8-)
