Any Word on New Stuff?
Roland of Gilead — Thu, 07/03/2008 - 21:17
I'm concerned with the lack of action on Scott's own website. What happened to the two novellas? What's the latest date for Republic of Thieves?
I sure hope Lynch isn't developing Martinitus!!!! The most dread disease that can afflict an author, as a series languishes in limbo and fans suffer for years to see the next installment. :?:  :|
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
ravelle — Fri, 07/04/2008 - 09:16Don't we all! This could be worse as at least GRRM has been active in other projects between his ASOIAF works. I'm not completely sure to be honest. Perhaps he's just taking a break from the online PR stuff and pushing on with his work, or maybe he's taking a complete break, spending some time out?
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Roland of Gilead — Thu, 07/10/2008 - 18:11Well, as much as I would hate a delay, I would still rather see Scott post something about his progress on his site, even if it's "I'm behind schedule and don't expect anything until late 2009" rather than this complete blank.
Hopefully we'll hear some word soon. :geek:

He has a Livejournal, but it does not appear to be very actively used.

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Tue, 08/26/2008 - 21:17In case people don't know, the most recent date announced on Amazon is Feb 23rd 2009 (possibly 24th, can't remember). However, Scott's publicist still insists on a tentative March date. Either way, it looks like it's going to be a good 6/7 months before we get our next fix.
As for the Novellas, Scott hasn't even penned them yet. In fact, last I heard, he hasn't even finished the manuscript for Republic of Thieves!! *dies*
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Roland of Gilead — Wed, 08/27/2008 - 16:58I don't trust that February date.
Amazon has A Dance with Dragons coming out in September of 2008. Yeah, right.
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Tue, 09/23/2008 - 20:12Just realised that Lynch's english publicist has kept the July 2009 release date on their site... despite an assured Feb 24th from the American publicist. It seems everyone's still unsure. *prays its Feb*
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Somac — Fri, 10/10/2008 - 07:42It's too bad there isn't more info, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on February as well. :)
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Don Scot A Ellison — Fri, 10/24/2008 - 17:12Just an FYI. SL is moderating a panel at the World Fantasy Convention in Calgary at the end of the Month. Perhaps, if someone is going, we could politely inquire about the progress of tRoT?

Sabetha — Sat, 10/25/2008 - 20:22Politely? If I were going I'd pin him down demand answers at gunpoint! *smiles sweetly* Is it in America? I've never heard of Calgary. I hope someone's going... maybe someone with a video camera...?

Don Scot A Ellison — Mon, 10/27/2008 - 13:13I'm not sure tackling him will get the desired information.

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Mon, 10/27/2008 - 19:18Meh. You never know, SL might have a fetish for that kind of thing. At any rate, I want information!

Roland of Gilead — Mon, 10/27/2008 - 21:20Sabetha, Calgary is in Canada.

Akaia Autumngold — Fri, 01/02/2009 - 23:43Damn it, this really doesn't look good at all. I really wish he would just let us know what the heck was happening...or even just something to let us know he hasn't fallen off the face of the earth or something. Gah I cannot WAIT for the next book...no matter when it might be.
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Sat, 01/03/2009 - 17:13Amen to that.

Icarus — Sun, 01/04/2009 - 05:09I'll see your "amen" and raise you a "where the f*ck are you Scott?"

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Mon, 01/05/2009 - 19:52Ah, shit, guys. Bad news.
The release date for RoT has been pushed all the way back til AUGUST 24TH 2009.
I may cry.
But that's the English release date. The American date still states Feb, though that's rubbish. His publisher already stated it will be later than March. If we're lucky, the pub date will be May at the earliest.
At any rate, it's gonna be a long freakin' wait.
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Roland of Gilead — Wed, 01/07/2009 - 18:54I wish I had a dollar for every author I've put the kiss of death on. :o
I'm not kidding, I can name at least thirty over the past forty years that I fell in love with their work, and they either dropped dead, turned to a different genre, or quit writing altogether. It's depressing.
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Wed, 01/07/2009 - 19:49Well then, there's our answer! Pay someone to get rid of Roland of Gilead and Lynch will return!! It's all so simple now!!
:-p

Icarus — Fri, 02/13/2009 - 04:27Am I the only one who thinks it is a little creepy that we have resorted to reading Scott Lynch's wife's blog to try to get information about Book 3?

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Fri, 02/13/2009 - 14:45I agree with Icarus. I don't like prying too much into SL's personal life. Maybe the roommate was the issue, maybe it wasn't. I feel bad poking into someone else's business. All I hope is that we get some sort of solid confirmation about the status of RoT soon and that SL isn't in too much distress. If Scott didn't want to directly tell his fans what's troubling him I don't think it's right to try and find out.
But that's just me.
Let's hope whatever's happening gets cleared up soon.
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Don Scot A Ellison — Fri, 02/13/2009 - 22:03Sorry, y'all are absolutely right. That was too personal to post. Please accept my apologies.

Sabetha — Mon, 02/16/2009 - 13:03It's okay, no one was having a go at you personally! I'm desperate to know the progress of the book too, so I don't blame you for digging around hehe. ;)

How can they give two dates that are seperated by an entire year? To be honest, I've given up looking for dates, simply because they're all so different. I'll only believe it when it's officially announced. My opinion is it will be late this year or early next year. I very much doubt it will be late next year.

From the link:
It's second hand but it's better than nothing. The delivered I'm taking to mean the Manuscript.

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
TheSpider — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 00:00Only a few days ago, Scott was still working on it. I understand that he was putting the finishing touches (there is hope ^^), but I'm not sure the manuscript is actually delivered... :?:

Don Scot A Ellison — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 13:46Icarus,
To answer your question. According to Werthead on Ran's board they work for the same UK publisher and so should be privy to information we don't have access to.

Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Sabetha — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 19:47Lol they must've hassled them and hassled to get that info out!
No worries about it being second hand! It's better than no news, and in my opinion, if he's handed the MS in we wont have to worry about the release date being late next year (unless the MS is devestating).
Re: Any Word on New Stuff?
Roland of Gilead — Thu, 03/05/2009 - 17:42If he's handed in the manuscript (and that's, of course, a big if), I would still think we could see the novel by the end of this year. That gives the publisher six or eight months, and that's plenty of time.

It will be ready when they tell us officially that it is ready. No further emotional investment required until further notified.
